Forth Bridge Abseil 2026 – Participation Agreement

Please read this agreement carefully before booking and participating in the Forth Bridge Abseil.

The event is organised by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and operated by Zone Events Limited at the Forth Rail Bridge, South Queensferry, Scotland.

It is important that you read and understand the information below before securing your place. Registration is non-transferable and you must not give your place to anyone else, pretend to be another participant, or swap any participant identification methods used by Zone Events.

Nature of the Abseil and Associated Risks

You will descend to ground level by abseil using a rope and climbing equipment provided by Zone Events from a height of approximately 50 metres.

The Abseil is mentally and physically challenging and involves significant exposure to height. The event may take place in adverse weather conditions including snow, wind, ice, fog, humidity and rain.

Participation in the Abseil may expose you to potential dangers and risks. These may include, but are not limited to, bruises, abrasions, strains, muscle tension, dizziness, psychological stress, sprains, broken bones and dislocations. Although considered highly unlikely, there is also a possibility of serious injury or death.

Some risks associated with the Abseil are inherent and cannot be completely eliminated without changing the challenging nature of the activity. By taking part, you knowingly accept these risks.

Safety Rules

To take part in the Abseil, you must:

Be aged 16 or over.
If you are aged 16–17, have a parent or legal guardian present during the Abseil.
Be at least 140cm tall.
Weigh less than 120kg.
Have a head circumference within the permitted range of 48–61cm.
Not wear necklaces, chains or loose jewellery.
Wear sensible footwear that is securely fastened. High heels, slippers and loose-fitting shoes are not permitted.
Wear appropriate clothing, including long sleeves and trousers. Hoodies and shorts are not permitted.
Tie back long hair.
Ensure glasses and eyewear have a secure banded strap so they cannot fall off. Otherwise, they must be removed.
Not adjust or remove your harness or helmet once fitted.
Not carry your phone or any other loose items during the Abseil.
Act responsibly and courteously at all times.
Listen carefully to and follow all instructions given by event instructors.
Use all equipment provided in accordance with the instructions given.
Not smoke or vape during the Abseil.
Not be under the influence of alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or any other substance that may affect your ability to take part safely.
Have no known medical or other condition that could affect your ability to safely participate or create a risk to yourself or others, including pregnancy.

It is your responsibility to monitor your physical and mental health in the lead-up to and during the Abseil. If you have any concerns about your physical fitness or health, you should consult a qualified medical professional before taking part.

Failure to follow these Safety Rules may result in you being refused participation in the Abseil.

Qualified Instructors and Equipment

Zone Events will provide the equipment required for the Abseil and will use reasonable care and skill when operating the event, taking into account the nature of the activity and the associated risks.

You must follow all instructions given by Zone Events personnel and use all equipment in accordance with the instructions provided.

Personal Belongings

You are responsible for your personal belongings during the event. Phones and loose items must not be carried during the Abseil.

Zone Events will not be responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal property arising in connection with your participation in the event.

Medical Conditions and Health

You must not take part if you have a known or reasonably knowable medical or other condition that could affect your ability to participate safely or create a risk to yourself or others.

If you have any doubts about your physical fitness or health, it is your responsibility to consult a qualified medical professional before taking part.

Emergency Medical Treatment

If you are injured and become unconscious or otherwise unable to make a medical decision, you authorise Zone Events personnel and emergency medical professionals to make necessary emergency medical decisions on your behalf.

This may include CPR, use of an Automated External Defibrillator, emergency medical care or transportation where considered necessary. Your emergency contact may also be informed.

Liability

Zone Events will use reasonable care and skill when operating the Abseil, taking into account the nature of the event and the associated risks.

Zone Events will not be liable for direct or indirect loss, loss, theft or damage to personal property, or personal injury arising from participation in the Abseil or failure to follow the Safety Rules, except where death or personal injury is caused by Zone Events’ negligence.

Personal Data

Personal data provided in connection with the event will be used for the purposes of providing and operating the Abseil.

Your data may be stored and shared between Zone Events and Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland where necessary to support your participation, fundraising, event communications and safety.

Your personal information will not be sold to third-party organisations. Further information about how your data is protected and used can be found in the relevant privacy policies.

Photos and recordings captured during the Abseil may also be used for promotional, advertising and marketing purposes relating to the event and other events operated by Zone Events.

Acknowledgement

By booking and participating in the Abseil, you confirm that:

You have carefully considered the risks involved and are willingly and voluntarily participating in the Abseil.
Your participation is subject to your compliance with this Participation Agreement, the Safety Rules and all directions, instructions and decisions given by Zone Events personnel on the day.
You understand that the Participation Agreement is governed by Scots law.

Participants Aged 16–17

Participants aged 16–17 are permitted to take part, however a parent or legal guardian must be present at all times during the Abseil.

The parent or legal guardian will also be required to read and sign the Participation Agreement and consent to the participant taking part.

The parent or legal guardian must notify Zone Events before the Abseil of any change in circumstances, including recent illness, medication or injury, which may affect the participant’s ability to take part safely.

Data Protection

We will use your data to provide you with important and relevant information regarding the event, support your fundraising, and provide the services and experiences required for your safe and enjoyable participation.

Your data may be shared with selected organisations where required to fulfil your participation in the event and will only be held and processed in accordance with your legal rights.

We will never sell your personal information to third-party organisations.

By proceeding with your booking, you confirm that you have read and understood the Event Participation Agreement and agree to comply with the event rules and safety requirements.
